2018 Acrylic on canvas 50 x 40 cm
Šnipiškės is now what Užupis was 20 years ago. Wooden houses without water and sewage, heated with firewood and outdoor toilets, but with satellite dishes and solar panels on them! Šnipiškės is full of craftsmen: here are bicycle repairmen, piano tuners and watch repairmen, tailors and shoemakers. It also has a market place. Sphinxes (cats) sleep at the entrance of every house. Each household has a minimum of two. I want to be friends with them but they remain indifferent to me. Despite the active community, there are constant arguments in Šnipiškės: illegal, recreational construction, and almost unexpected fires of old pantries that change the face of Šnipiškės. In the neighborhood of glamorous architecture, surrounded by wildlife, the life of an urban village boils, overlooked by the municipality from above through the mirrored windows. Šnipiškės is a neighbourhood of contrasts.
